I've been wondering about the hype around Colleen Hoover.
Everywhere I go, ranging from a bookstore to a cafe with my friend, her name crops up. Far be it from me to denigrate an author or wish them ill (writing isn't an easy industry!) but from what you write, her books really aren't my cup of tea. (Love your alternative suggestions, particularly the shout out to Maggie Shipstead!).
Normalising and romanticising abuse in a relationship, using someone's mental health struggle as a literary device is not sth that appeals to me, especially since I grew up listening to a lot of those ideas ('Well, he really loves me...I can save him, show him the light').
Thank you for this astute commentary!
